Auto Locksmith in Newcastle City Centre

Newcastle city centre packs shops, offices, two universities, Central Station and St James' Park into a small area, and much of the parking is in multi-storeys and pay-and-display streets. We come to the car wherever it's parked, from the Haymarket to the Quayside.

Car key services in Newcastle City Centre

Common car key problems in Newcastle City Centre

  • Keys locked inside a car in a multi-storey
  • Key lost while shopping around Northumberland Street or Eldon Square
  • Remote not unlocking the car in a staff car park
  • Key snapped in the door lock or ignition

Snapped keys and broken blades

If a key snaps in the door lock or ignition, don't try to turn or start the car with the broken piece. The remaining part can usually be extracted, then a new key cut to the lock and programmed to the car.

Keep the broken head of the key. On some older vehicles the transponder chip inside it can be moved into a new key.

Multi-storey and underground car parks

A lot of city centre parking is in multi-storey and underground car parks. Height barriers, tight ramps and payment barriers all affect how we reach a car, so tell us the car park name, the level and roughly where the car is when you call.

If you've lost the parking ticket as well as the key, speak to the car park operator about leaving. We can only deal with the vehicle itself.

Match days and busy evenings

On match days at St James' Park and on busy weekend nights, the streets around the centre fill up and getting about is slow. If you're stuck with a car you can't get into, tell us about any time limit on the bay so we can plan around it.

Driving in for work

If you drive into the city for work and your key breaks or stops working in a staff car park, we can usually come to the car there, provided the site allows contractors. Check with building management or security first.

We also offer vehicle entry and work with many popular vehicle makes. Before we produce a key or open a vehicle, we'll ask for proof of ownership.

Key types

Car keys we cut and programme

  • Transponder keys

A metal blade with a chip in the head that the immobiliser must recognise. Cut to your locks, then programmed to the car.

  • Remote keys

A transponder chip plus lock and unlock buttons. On many vehicles the remote and the starting chip are programmed separately.

  • Flip keys

A remote key with a folding blade. The spring, pivot and case wear with daily use and are worth dealing with before they fail.

  • Keyless & proximity keys

Detected by the car so you can unlock and start without the blade. Whether we can programme one depends on the make, model and year.

Before you call

Having these ready means we can tell you straight away what's possible in Newcastle City Centre:

  • Your registration number
  • Make, model and year
  • How many working keys you have (even if it's none)
  • Where the vehicle is parked
  • Proof of ownership: usually the V5C logbook and photo ID with a matching name and address

Ford Ranger Spare Key

White Ford Ranger pick-up · Remote flip key

Pick-ups like the Ford Ranger do a lot of trade and site work in and around Newcastle, and they're often shared between drivers. This photograph is an example of our genuine Ford Ranger spare key work: a second remote flip key supplied and programmed alongside the existing one. We provide the same mobile spare key service across Newcastle, whether the vehicle is on a city street, in a staff car park or in a multi-storey.

Newcastle City Centre car key questions

Can you get a broken key out of the lock or ignition?

Often, yes. Don't force it or use the car until we've looked at it. Once the broken piece is out, a new key can be cut and programmed.

Can you come to a car in a multi-storey car park?

Usually, yes, provided we can get to your car and work safely around it. Access and contractor rules vary between car parks, so give us the car park name and level when you call.

Do I need to move the car out of the city centre?

No. If we can reach the vehicle safely, the work is done where it's parked. That's the point of a fully mobile service.
