Lost Car Keys in Newcastle

Lost every key to your car? You may not need the dealer or a recovery truck. We can often cut and programme a brand-new key at the vehicle, wherever it's parked in Newcastle.

What “all keys lost” means

An all-keys-lost job is when there is no working key left for the vehicle. That's different from adding a spare car key, because there is no existing key to copy or to use for programming. Instead, the new key has to be produced from the vehicle itself and then introduced to the car's immobiliser.

Modern keys contain a transponder chip that talks to the immobiliser. Even if a key is cut perfectly and turns the lock, the engine won't start until that chip has been programmed to the car. This is specialist work and needs the right diagnostic and programming equipment for your make and model.

Common lost key situations we're asked about

  • Keys lost on a night out, at the coast or at a match, with the car still parked
  • Only key dropped, damaged beyond use or lost while moving house
  • Keys stolen in a burglary or from a bag
  • Second-hand car bought with a single key that has now gone missing
  • Keyless entry fob lost and the car won't unlock or start

Before you call

Having these details ready helps us confirm quickly whether we can help:

  • Make, model and year of the vehicle
  • Registration number
  • Where the car is parked (postcode)
  • The type of key it had — flip key, remote, plain key or keyless fob
  • V5C logbook and photo ID for proof of ownership

Is every vehicle possible?

No locksmith can honestly promise that. Support depends on the vehicle's security system and the tools available for it. Some newer or high-security vehicles can only be keyed by the manufacturer. If yours is one of them, we'll tell you straight away rather than waste your time. See the vehicle makes we work with.

Security after losing your keys

If a key has gone missing, it may still be able to start your car. Where the system allows, we remove lost keys from the vehicle's memory when programming the new one. If your keys were stolen alongside your address, this is especially worth doing.

How the lost car key process works

  1. 01

    Check

We check your make, model and registration to confirm the key system is supported.

  2. 02

    Verify

On arrival we check proof of ownership before any work begins.

  3. 03

    Produce

A new key is cut to your vehicle's locks and its transponder is programmed.

  4. 04

    Secure

Missing keys are removed from memory where the vehicle allows it.

Lost car key questions

My car has keyless entry and I've lost the fob — can it still be done?

Often, yes. Many proximity (keyless) systems can have a new fob added with the right equipment, even with no existing key. Some systems have extra security or are dealer-only. Give us the registration and we'll check.

What if my keys were stolen rather than lost?

Report the theft to the police first and keep the crime reference number. When we programme your new key, we'll remove the missing keys from the vehicle's memory wherever the system allows, so the stolen key can no longer start the car.

Will my car need to be towed anywhere?

Usually not. All-keys-lost work is normally done where the car is parked, which avoids recovery costs and time without your vehicle.

Do I need any documents?

Yes — proof that you own the vehicle or are authorised to have a key made, typically the V5C logbook plus photo ID showing the same name and address.
