Car Key Programming in Newcastle

Remote not responding, key not recognised, or a new key that needs pairing? We programme transponders, remotes and keyless fobs, and diagnose immobiliser and vehicle security faults.

Remote key programming

Your key does two jobs: the remote locks and unlocks the doors, and the transponder chip tells the immobiliser it's safe to start the engine. They're programmed separately, which is why a remote can stop working while the car still starts — or the other way round.

  • Remotes that stopped working after a battery change
  • Newly supplied keys or fobs that need pairing to the car
  • Keyless entry or push-button start fobs not being detected
  • Adding a key to a vehicle that already has one or more working keys

Immobiliser and vehicle security diagnostics

When the car cranks but won't fire, or a security light flashes on the dashboard, the fault isn't always the key. We use diagnostic equipment to read the vehicle's security system and find out whether the problem lies with the key, the transponder reader, or the immobiliser itself — before anything is replaced.

Typical symptoms

  • “Key not detected” or immobiliser warning lights
  • Engine starts then cuts out after a second or two
  • One key works but another doesn't
  • Problems after a flat battery or recent electrical work

Specialist vehicle module programming

Some key and security issues involve a vehicle control module rather than the key. Where the make and model are supported by our equipment, we can carry out specialist module programming related to vehicle keys and security. This is very vehicle-specific, so please call to discuss your situation first.

Specialist equipment and experience

Programming modern vehicle keys needs dedicated tools and know-how for each manufacturer's system. CC Locksmiths has worked on vehicle keys across the North East for years and carries the specialist equipment needed to do this work at the roadside. Check the vehicle makes we work with, or request a quote with your registration.

Programming & diagnostics questions

My replacement battery didn't fix the remote — what now?

Some remotes lose their pairing after a battery change or a flat car battery and simply need re-synchronising. Others have a fault in the circuit board. We can test and reprogramme as needed.

What does 'immobiliser fault' mean?

The immobiliser stops the engine starting unless it recognises a valid key. Faults can come from the key, the reader around the ignition or start button, wiring, or the control module. Diagnosis finds which one.

Can you programme any car?

No — and anyone who says otherwise isn't being straight with you. Coverage depends on the vehicle's security system and our equipment's support for it. Tell us your registration and we'll confirm.

Key not recognised?
